Excitement is building as we're just a week away from the Capital One Canada Cup of Curling hitting Mosaic Place.  The event will be taking over the city starting next Wednesday.

“We've been planning this since last November and everybody is getting excited,” stated event chair Danielle Sicinski.  “This will be really exciting for Moose Jaw as well to have a five-day event that will encompass the entire facility.”

There is still plenty for the organizing team to do before the event takes over Mosaic Place next week.  Sicinski says the main thing they need to accomplish between now and then is the transformation of the facility, “This weekend coming up will be the big transformation of the whole entire facility, where the hockey ice will transform into curling ice and then the curling ice part will become the big patch area.

“Our volunteer crew won't be moving in until Sunday morning, but I believe the Mosaic Place crew will be starting on Thursday, kind of getting a few of their things in place before the volunteers can start doing their work.”

Seven of the top men's and seven of the top women's curling teams will be in the Friendly City for the event.  All of them are vying for a trip to the 2013 Roar of the Rings Olympic Trials, which goes to the winner of the men's and women's event.

“We have lots of tickets still available for all the draws,” said Sicinski.  “If you wanted to just purchase a single ticket, you can go online and they're $20, or you can buy for a Saturday and Sunday, which is the playoff round, and those are $25.  As well too if your thinking of attending the whole event, those packages are still available, but you do have to phone the Mosaic Place box office.”

Event chair Danielle Sicinski discusses the planning.
Ticket sales are going well for the event and just might be on a record breaking pace, “We're on track to break the records when it comes to the Canada Cup events and hopefully we can have an attendance level that will set a record that won't be broken again either.”

There's more than just the curling happening over the five days with the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre becoming the patch.  An event ticket gets you in there for four full days of entertainment.

“Wednesday to Saturday night in the patch there's entertainment.  A same day ticket will get you access into the patch,” explained Sicinski.  “We've got Trick Rider performing on Wednesday night; Thursday night is Method to Madness; Friday night is Men Without Shame; and then Saturday we've got Scott Benson performing at four o'clock and then later in the evening, we've got Wonderland performing.

“It's not just for curlers to come on down, it's for the whole entire community of Moose Jaw to come on down and have a good time in the Patch.”

Everything gets started on Wednesday, November 28th and will wrap up on Sunday, December 2nd with the men's and women's finals.
