Hockey Canada.Team Canada made sure it was a happy new year across the country on the final day of 2013.

They knocked off the United States 3-2 in the final round robin game at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Malmo, Sweden to steal away top spot in Group A.

For the seventh straight, Canada gave up the first goal, but they again didn't quit and behind an outstanding performance in goal by Zach Fucale, found a way to win.  Fucale made 12 saves in the opening period and 24 for the game to lead Canada to the win.

American forward Riley Barber opened the scoring early in the second period with a shorthanded marker.  Canada was able to tie the game when Nic Petan scored his fourth of the tournament just past the midway point of the frame.

Canada really pushed the pace in the third period and that led to two goals in the first 6:13 from Connor McDavid and Curtis Lazar to give Canada a 3-1 lead.

Stefan Matteau pulled the United States within one with just under three minutes to go in the game, but they couldn't find the equalizer late.

Former AAA Warrior Derrick Pouliot had an assist in the win, while Anthony Mantha kept pace in the tournament scoring race with an assist.  He now has four goals and ten points in the tournament.

The win gives Canada first place in Group A and will set up a quarterfinal match-up with Switzerland on Thursday morning at 10:00am.  The US gets Russia in their quarterfinal game, while the other two feature Czech Republic taking on Finland and Slovakia facing Sweden.
