The hope was, the goal was and still is, to reduce the number of speeding motorists on local roads deemed dangerous.  Well, the numbers show it's working.  Slowly but surely, the number of speeders is going down after thousands of speeding tickets were mailed out.

SGI has released the numbers from this past summer when photo radar was in operation at 9th Avenue North West at the Trans Canada Highway and in two local school zones.

The alarming news is the fact 3188 vehicles were captured in violation of the speed limit law in the two school zones;  one on Grace Street near Palliser Heights School and another on Caribou Street near William Grayson School.

The encouraging news is the fact the number of infractions has dropped from 1293 in July to 707 in September.

I recently listened to a man who proudly proclaimed he's got it figured out.  He says there's only one radar camera for the two photo radar-enforced school zones.  He's missing the point.  We need to slow down in school zones to keep local children safe...not just to avoid getting speeding tickets.

I wonder if he got one?  I hope he did.
