Carnie's Comments

Loyal listener Karen inspired today's Throwback Thursday on the daily commentary.

She sent a text while she was listening to the song Brand New Key on CHAB, a #1 hit for Melanie in 1971.

"My dad couldn't stand that song", she wrote.  "We would laugh and laugh when the song came on the radio."

She added, "As kids, we hoped that song by Tiny Tim, Tip Toe Through the Tulips would play when we were packed in the car.  Dad always had something to say and we would howl with laughter...those were the days."

Many of us had similar experiences with our parents in the 70s and 80s.

My dad didn't care much for the pop music or the country.  He liked the old school singers like Al Martino and Engelbert Humperdinck.

When I was in high school I begged him for a boom box.  He bought me one and I know he regretted it.

Every evening, after supper, he got a steady diet of Streetheart, Toronto, The Headpins, The Rolling Stones and more.

And, you know, it wasn't long after, he bought me a nice set of headphones.  I didn't even ask for them!
