One of the biggest and longest running youth bonspiels in the province will be hitting the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre Ice this weekend.

The CHAB Youth Spiel has a full schedule of teams, some of whom are hitting their first major tournament.

“There are two divisions, the U15 and a U18,” said Rhonda Wenarchuk with the curling centre. “The U15 has 16 teams and the U18 is now at 12, so it’s going to be a full two days. Lots of good curling and lots of learning as well.”

Curl Sask has different rules this year for coaches at youth spiels.

“This year we are using the Curl Sask training rules, so that allows the coaches to go out… on the backboard, and then do a little bit more training and help them out, maybe with some calls and where they can put the brooms. And try to keep the flow of the game going a little bit better.”

Teams come from major centres like Regina and Saskatoon and all over southern Saskatchewan for the youth spiel.

Action gets underway Saturday at 9 a.m. with the U15s who play six end games. Then the U18s who go eight ends and the U15s will alternate draws from there.
