Nominees have been announced for the 2015 Citizen & Group of the Year Awards presented by the Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce, CAE Inc., and Golden West Radio. 

The annual luncheon, which will be held January 14 at the Heritage Inn, will also feature awards from the Moose Jaw Heritage Advisory Committee, and the State of the City Address from Mayor Deb Higgins. 

Tickets for the luncheon are $25 each and must be purchased in advance, either from the Chamber office in person or you can call 306-692-6414.

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Clayton Finnell

• He has helped countless individuals with his "1000 Good Deeds" initiative

• He has gone above and beyond in showing the City what true selflessness is

Monica and Kevin Haakenson

• Host an annual free Christmas Dinner for anyone who will be alone that day.

• They even offer a ride to anyone without transportation

Isabelle Hanson Kenowekesequape

• In 2015 her vision and leadership brought about Moose Jaw’s first annual Round Dance.

• She is passionate about aboriginal culture, our community & our people and is dedicated to improving quality of life for all

Jacki L’Heaureux

• In 2013 she began Chairing the Sidewalk Days Event which has seen huge growth

• She has tripled sponsorship for the event and increased vender participation by 28%

Deann Kallweit Little - 306.692.2911

• She is the Assistant Manager at the Moose Jaw Food Bank

• She volunteers much of her own time to help and encourage others

Jared Mathieson

• He has organized a fundraising concert in support of the new hospital

• His efforts have raised over $450,000

Dave Reidy

• Chairman of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation capital equipment campaign

• The Foundation (committee of over 65 people) has raised over $8.2 million

Renee Verge

• In 2015 she has volunteered over 1000 hrs to her students

• She coaches basketball, cross country, Track & Field, organized the Polar Bear run and a 24 team basketball tournament  

 

GROUP OF THE YEAR

15 Wing Fellowship Committee

• The group of 19 members work to improve the relationship between Military Members of 15 Wing and the community.

• The have held concerts and cars shows downtown and at the 15 Wing.

Moose Jaw Police Association

• Their charity committee organizes various events: golf tournaments and Copper Cup Pond Hockey

• 2015 they completed a new bike park estimated $300,000 project and first of its kind in Sask.

Moose Jaw Pride

• Facilitated the first Gay Straight Alliance with the Prairie South School Division

• The group saw over 2400 attendee’s in special events held in 2015

Moose Jaw Real Estate Board

• In 2015 they have donated $140,000 to several local charities

• The Board is dissolved however all of the local Realtors who helped raised these funds are still here in the City

Salvation Army Donation and Sorting Centre

• They organize “mountains” of donations

• The team is very dedicated

Scotties Tournament of Hearts Committee

• Over 600 volunteers made this event possible

• Largest sporting event in Moose Jaw’s history

Sports Hall of Fame Committee

• 2015 they had the 1st annual hall of fame dinner

• Created a partnership with Mosaic Place
