Moose Javians heard the call for Christmas gifts for children in need and they answered. Operation Christmas Child, a project which delivers shoeboxes of toys, school supplies and personal care items to children in need across the world, received 2,133 from citizens of Moose Jaw in 2023. This is an increase of 104 percent over the year prior, during which 1,046 gift boxes were packed.

In total, Saskatchewan residents packed 20,701 shoeboxes for the program, a 9 percent increase over 2022.

“We are thrilled to see the enthusiastic participation of Canadians in Operation Christmas Child,” said Kendra Shields, Operation Christmas Child’s Canadian director. “It is very encouraging to know that so many generous people want to give hope and joy to children in need around the world.”

While drop off locations are closed until November, you can still be a part of this project year-round by packing a shoebox gift online.

For those who wish to participate in the program on a deeper level or become a year-round volunteer you can find information on how to do so on the Samaritan’s Purse website or by calling 1-800-303-1269.
