The city finals for senior high school volleyball have been set.

In the girls division, Peacock will face defending champion Vanier after defeating Cornerstone in straight sets Thursday night (25-11, 25-18, 25-11).

Vanier also swept their quarrterfinal 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-23).

Toilers head coach Lorne Polupski said they're happy to make the finals.

“You’ve always got to be happy with a year where you set one of your goals as just getting to the final and then getting there,” Poluipski said. “Vanier’s been really tough this year. Everybody is well coached so it’s good to get back there for another year.”

The Toilers had some issues last night when they went down by a few points in the second set, but they were able to get momentum back. Polupski called an important time out.

“We’ve just got to keep that fire,” he said. “We told our Grade 12s after that timeout that we needed that back. ‘You guys are in charge. This is four years that you guys have been here. We need you to pick it up’ and they’ve responded, and they’ve been doing that all year for us. And they’re grade Grade 12s.

In the boys division, Vanier has a date with the Central Cyclones. Vanier defeated Cornerstone 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-17) and Central defeated Cornerstone three sets to one (25-22, 24-26, 26-24, 25-23).

The finals will take place Wednesday evening at Sask Polytechnic with the girls game at 6:20 and the boys game at 8.
