Downtown traffic, the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities (SUMA) convention and Truth and Reconciliation are on the slate when Moose Jaw City Council meets on Monday night.

A report will be coming forward from city administration about traffic calming measures for the downtown area. This comes after the Moose Jaw Downtown Association put forward a request to city council in June asking for the speed limit to be reduced from 50 km/h to 40 km/h. City council directed city administration to come back with traffic calming alternatives as well as ask the Moose Jaw Police Service for further information. A letter from the police dated June 16 said the police couldn't comment if the speed limit should be reduced or not because they don't have sufficient data. The police noted that there were 11 accidents in the downtown area from January 2020 to June 2021, but couldn't say if speed was involved.

Meanwhile, the calls for resolutions for the SUMA 2022 convention will be presented to city council. The convention is set to take place April 3-6 in Regina.

Finally, city council will be presented recommendations for the city's response to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls for Action subjection number seven in regards to people and culture.

You can watch the live stream for city council's proceedings on the City of Moose Jaw's website starting at 5:30 p.m.
