Alcohol will once again be served during Moose Jaw Mustangs junior lacrosse games at the Kinsmen Sportsplex arena.

During Monday night’s city council meeting, the Moose Jaw Lacrosse Association’s special events application was approved.

This is the second year that the Moose Jaw Lacrosse Association has received approval to serve alcohol at home games.

“Looking back at the events last year, we had no reported issues from 2023. They expect approximately 40 people in attendance per game and the funds raised through their licensed events help assist with travel costs for their junior lacrosse program,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Derek Blais.

The application would be for home games on April 27, May 11, May 15, May 31, June 15, June 21 and July 3. The licensed serving area would be in the southwest corner of the arena and members of the board of directors will be security with two security guards per game.

Blais added that the final decision would ultimately come from SLGA following municipal approval.

“The SLGA regulations state that all or a portion of the sports arena may be permitted for the service and consumption of beverage alcohol, provided that the permitee can monitor and control access to the facility, the consumption of beverage alcohol and the conduct of guests,” Blais said.

According to the report to city council, the Moose Jaw Lacrosse Association has indicated they plan to meet and exceed the SLGA conditions.
