Members of CUPE Local 9 have voted in favour of ratifying a new collective agreement with the city of Moose Jaw.

The new four-year agreement sees new provisions for domestic violence leave, expands bereavement leave to include Indigenous elders, implements start date seniority and creates a joint job evaluation process to move towards pay equity. It also includes a staggered removal of the two-tier wage structure for students and brings the wages of those employees in line with regular starting wages.

“We are very pleased to have reached a deal with the City of Moose Jaw. Our members are proud of the services we provide to the residents of Moose Jaw,” said Mark Stevenson, A/President of CUPE Local 9. “This round of bargaining was very respectful, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Employer.”

The agreement is in place from January 1, 2019 to December 31 of 2022, and includes improvements to health and dental premiums, and shift differential.

It also includes the following wage increases,

  • January 1, 2019 1.25%
  • January 1, 2020 1.5%
  • January 1, 2021 1.5%
  • January 1, 2022 1.75%

The agreement will be up for ratification in front of city council June 15.
