It’s time to renew your pet license if you are a dog owner in Moose Jaw.

A pet license is an I.D. that is unique to your pet and can assist the Moose Jaw Humane Society in reuniting you if your dog gets lost.

“So, if your dog were to come into the shelter wearing its tag, we could look the number up and give you a call and get you guys reconnected pretty much immediately,” said humane society executive director Dana Haukaas.

The license tags attach to your dog’s collar so your dog can wear them at all times. It is a city by-law to obtain a pet license if you own a dog in Moose Jaw.

The yearly licensing fee is $15 for an altered (spayed/neutered) dog and $40 for an unaltered (not sprayed/not neutered) dog. The licenses are valid from April 1- March 31.

Haukaas said it is really easy to purchase a license.

“Give us a call. We can do everything remotely. So, if you're just on your coffee break at work and you thought ‘oh, I forgot to renew my dog's license,’ you can phone us. We can text you the checkout and you get everything done and you never have to come to the shelter.”

Licenses can be purchased at the City of Moose Jaw or you can call the humane society to book an appointment.
