Moose Jaw Police, Fire and EMS were called to this home on the 300 block of Coteau St. W on Saturday

Andrew Suidak, the 21 year old male suspected of arson for the house fire early Saturday morning, made his first court appearance earlier today.

He was remanded into the Saskatchewan Hospital Forensic Unit in North Battleford for a thirty day psychiatric assessment, where they will determine if he is fit to stand trial, and what his mental state was when the offence was committed.

Members of the Moose Jaw Police and Fire Services were called to the scene at 2:30 Saturday morning, and assisted in clearing the occupants of the residence.

Suidak, a resident of the home, was identified by several of the occupants as a suspect for starting the fire.

About $70,000 in damage was done, and one person suffered smoke inhalation from the fire on the 300 block of Coteau Street West.

Suidak will return to court on March 4th at 9:30, and will remain in custody until that day.
