What would you do if you won $20 million?

That is the question that Yorkton retiree Ernie Anuik, 72, is now facing after striking it big during Feb. 15's Lotto Max Draw. He purchased his ticket from Shopper Drug Mart in Yorkton.

Anuik has ties to Moose Jaw, as he worked in the public sector in our city in the 1970s.

He recalled the moment he scanned his ticket and realized he had won $20 million.

“It was kind of a surreal moment because of the number of zeroes,” Anuik said. “I don’t think it has totally sunk in even yet.”

He said his first phone call was to his four sons to tell them the good news.

“I asked if they were sitting down, and then, of course, they thought I was just pulling their leg,” he said. “They thought I was trying to get a rise out of them."

Asked what he plans to do with the money he said that he plans on talking to financial advisors before spending any of it.

“If it would have happened 20 years ago, it would have been a totally different story,” he said. “I know myself well enough that I probably would have been a little more excited about it.”

So, does this mean he will be going out and splurging or will buy himself a new truck?

“I’m pretty happy with the truck I have right now,” he chuckled. “It’s still getting me places."

The chances of someone winning the $20 million Lotto Max prize is one in 33 million, according to Saskatchewan Lotteries officials.
