Two fundraisers are taking place in Moose Jaw aimed towards funding the Evan Thomas Memorial Scholarship.

Thomas lost his life at a young age during the Humboldt Broncos Bus Crash last year in April.

One of them being a "Dry Rib and Caesar Salad Night" at Bugsies from 5-8 pm on Saturday, the other fundraiser is a silent auction on Facebook. The Facebook page is titled "Evan Thomas Memorial Scholarship Silent Auction".

Lorna Leugner, one of the organizers for the scholarship and the fundraisers explained why and how she came up with the idea to have a scholarship.

"I wanted a way to honour Evan and his family... I came up with the scholarship idea. So I wanted the scholarship to kind of represent who Evan was as a person."

The scholarship is specific to Vanier Collegiate, students must apply by June 4th, and the applications are then sent to parents Scott and Laurie Thomas who will ultimately determine the recipient of the scholarship.

Leugner also explained what her goal was going into the fundraisers.

"My initial goal was $500 just to be able to have the scholarship for another year. We have totally surpassed that we are already over $2200 so it's just so awesome."
