The Moose Jaw Health Foundation (MJHF) saw a substantial donation yesterday towards their $825,000 goal for their “Vision of Tomorrow” campaign.

Leona Shepherd, president of the Dr. F. H. Wigmore Regional Hospital Auxiliary, spoke about the source of the donation. “The Auxiliary was very fortunate in getting a magnificent bequest from the Radu estate, and we were able to give that money to the hospital today."

The legacy gift came from the Estate of Jack and Ruby Radu and amounted to $600,000. Shepherd said the donation will go towards the Stryker lighting and equipment system for the hospital’s four operating rooms.

Lindsey Cameron, director of acute care at the Dr. F. H. Wigmore Hospital, said the donation will lead to safer, better-quality surgeries. “Currently, the video system that we have in our four operating rooms are end of life. They don’t have the same video quality as this new technology does.”

“When we implement these new video upgrades into the OR, we’ll be able to provide the most high-definition type of video with our laparoscopic surgeries and various types of surgeries that we do, so we can provide more accurate and more precise surgery. We can have better outcomes, and reduced length of stay and improve recovery times.”

Other equipment the MJHF wants to bring to the hospital through the campaign includes a colonoscope, endoscope, and monitors for surgical recovery. They are also looking to bring a new procedure to the hospital – bronchoscopy.

One upcoming fundraiser is the Health Foundation’s Concerts in the Park series, happening Wednesdays at 7 p.m. starting today, June 19 until August 21.
