Moose Jaw Warriors captain Brett Howden has been playing a big role with the American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch since joining the team following the end of the WHL season.

Playing in his first stretch of professional games, Howden finished off the Crunch’s regular season over the weekend with goals in both games, giving him three goals in five games.

Howden sealed the Crunch’s 4-1 win over the Binghamton Senators on Friday with an empty net goal late in the third period.

Another former Warrior was on the ice for the Senators in that game as forward Jack Rodewald was held without a point. Rodewald had 18 goals and 27 points in 66 games with Binghamton this season.

In the second game of the weekend on Saturday, Howden scored his third goal in five games with Syracuse. Henri Ikonen opened the scoring for the Crunch just 5:24 into the game and Howden made it 2-0 just ten seconds later as Syracuse rolled to a 5-2 win over the Utica Comets.

Howden finished with three goals and four points in five games to close out the regular season with the Crunch.

Syracuse ended the regular season with four wins in their last five games to capture the North Division title by a point over the Toronto Marlies. They will now get ready for the Calder Cup Playoffs, which they open on Friday against the St. John’s IceCaps, who finished fourth in the division.
