The Moose Jaw Health Foundation held their annual Health Care celebration on Friday. The annual event was a kickoff to the 2017 fundraising year, and a wrap up of the success of 2016.

Health Foundation Chair, James Murdock, was proud to announce their donation to the Five Hills Health Region (FHHR). Where he presented a cheque of 2.5 million dollars to the FHHR on Friday afternoon in front of attendees.

It will be the last time the Foundation hands donations over to the FHHR, since all provincial health regions will be amalgamated later this year.

FHHR Board Chair Betty Collicott acknowledged that fact in her speech.

"But the board will work with our region until the region is phased out. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve my adopted community in this way and to be apart of an active and progressive community and progressive health region," said Collicott.

It's been over a year since Moose Jaw's hyperbaric chamber was installed at the Wigmore regional hospital. That was one of many successes touted at the Moose Jaw Health Foundation's Healthcare celebration.

Respiratory therapist Deign Salido thanked supporters for their efforts in keeping the machine operational.

"It wasn't just for Moose Jaw and it wasn't just for the Five Hills Health Region, but it was for the whole of Saskatchewan. You guys were all apart of bringing the chamber here to our hospital."

All money raised has gone towards new equipment for the Wigmore hospital, including the hyperbaric chamber.
