Don't be alarmed to see some military vehicles around Moose Jaw this weekend. Saskatchewan Army Reserve units will conducting training exercises.

Military vehicles will be a common sight in areas surrounding Moose Jaw this weekend. It's part of training for Saskatchewan Army Reserve units, including the Saskatchewan Dragoons.

Dragoons Commanding Officer Major Brad Hrycyna says they'll be practicing convoys and convoy escorts. "These will begin Friday and continue Saturday and Sunday. We will be doing these activities along the secondary roads as far east of Moose Jaw as Pense and Drinkwater and as far west as Mortlach".

"What we would like the public to know is that we will be out there doing training that we otherwise couldn't do on military training areas because we simply don't have the complex road networks that we have on the civilian lands. We will be in some instances firing blank ammunition. There is absolutely no live ammunition or explosives used in this exercise". The exercise prepares the units for possible situations they may face in a real combat environment. It's expected the training will be complete Sunday afternoon.
