Peacock and Cornerstone swept the Moose Jaw high school junior badminton championships on Wednesday.

The Toilers won three of the five divisions, while the Falcons came out on top in the other.

Peacock’s Samantha Swalm walked away with the title in girls singles, beating Central’s Affaf Kashif in a three-set battle (18-21, 21-16, 22-20) in the gold medal match.

The bronze medal went to Vanier’s Mykayla Fysh, who won in two sets (21-11, 21-5) over Central’s Marie Ahmed.

The boys singles division was won by Cornerstone’s Joel Godard, who prevailed over teammate Aiden Cutts in the final in two straight sets (21-13, 21-7).

Central’s Mikkel Hrechka picked up the bronze medal with a three-set win (25-27, 21-15, 21-19) over teammate Austin Lin.

Moving into mixed doubles, Peacock’s duo of Georgia Legare and Adrian Robert won in two sets (21-19, 22-20) over fellow Toilers’ Gauge Adams and Sierra Ducharme in the final.

The bronze medal went to Central’s team of Vera Gauvin and Tom Naranbaater after they beat Ashley Fowlie and Redd Perez of Central in two sets (21-9, 21-12).

In girls doubles, Peacock’s team of Serena Schlamp and Caitlin Miller won gold, beating teammates Anna Maelde and Olivia Mowchenko in two sets (21-12, 21-14).

Central’s Jenna Murdock and Rydleigh Dennison came away with the bronze medal, edging fellow Cylcones’ Emma Hill and Ellie Hill in three sets (17-21, 21-13, 22-20).

Caleb Kaminski and Javon Atkins from Cornerstone walked away with gold in the boys doubles division, beating Peacock’s Cooper McFadden and Josh Bullock in three sets (21-12, 18-21, 21-18).

In the bronze medal game, Peacock’s Evan Polupski and Matt Marcyniuk beat Cornerstone’s Tyson Lewis and Matt Reuss in three sets (21-17, 19-21, 21-17).

The SCDAA district championship will go this weekend in Caronport with the top-two finishers from Tuesday’s senior city championship advancing.
