Gary Roberts probably has more hockey games under his belt in a season than the entire Rockers team does in their lives, but that's not going to stop them from going for the win in the 2013 Juno Cup.

The game is set for Friday at Mosaic Place and will feature the Jim Cuddy led Rockers taking on Roberts and the NHL Greats in the annual fundraising game.  Proceeds from the game go to the music education charity, MusiCounts, with more than $700,000 being raised in game so far.

The Rockers haven't had much luck in those games either, going 1-8 in the nine previous games.  Their lone win came four years ago in Vancouver as they kncoked off the NHL Greats, 12-11, in a shootout.

Regina's Jason Plumb from the Waltons will be playing for the Rockers and he jokes that they will be taking every chance they get to win.  “(Mike) Sillinger just had some surgery on his knee so, the knee will be rip for the picking because we'll go for it, we'll target that knee,” laughed Plumb.

Plumb was originally the lead singer of the Regina band, the Waltons, and he currently performs as a solo artist.  This will be his third time playing the Juno Cup after suiting up in the inaugural game in 2004 and then again in Prince Albert in 2007, but he says he wasn't a big hockey player growing up.

“I actually never even ice skated until I was about 27 or 28,” stated Plumb on his not so  lengthy career.  “I took up hockey pretty heavy at that point though.  Me and a bunch of  musician friends started renting ice here in Regina.  I'm not the world's greatest hockey player, but I can hold up Gary Roberts.”

On the other hand, Roberts, and all of the NHL Greats for that matter, has an extensive resume with 1,224 games in the NHL over 22 season.  Plumb says he's not intimidated by the NHL Greats' stats.

“I always try to imagine any of those guys jumping on stage with me and my band to fill in on drums or bass and how they would manage that,” said Plumb.  “I can say without a doubt, I'm a better hockey player than most of those guys are singers or guitar players.”

The game goes on Friday at 7:30pm.  There will be a pre-game barbecue before hand at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre from 3:30pm to 6:30pm.  The pre-game party is free and the game are $20.  There are still some available, click here to get yours.

“I have no doubt that we'll make Moose Javians proud and Mosaic Place, I'm looking forward to lacing them up and falling down on the ice there.”
