Brenda Hendrickson and Jim Crampton on Monday morning during the Rescuer Awards ceremony.

Four local heroes were honoured on Monday morning by the Canadian Red Cross as they handed out Rescuer Awards to the individuals for their life saving actions during emergency situations.  The ceremony went at Sunningdale School as Grath Rathwell, Rick Evans, Dan Beach and Brenda Hendrickson were all in attendance to receive their awards.

For Hendrickson, this is second time she's being honoured for her life saving efforts.  This time around, the City of Moose Jaw accountant jumped into action after local man Jim Crampton collapsed while paying a bill in the lobby of City Hall.

"One of our staff was calling out for 9-1-1, I heard the call from my office and came running to see what the problem was," explained Hendrickson as she described the incident.  "His heart had skipped a beat and that caused him to faint and he went face first into the floor.  By the time I arrived, he was in the process of regaining consciousness, so we did some outside stimulation until the EMTs arrived."

Hendrickson says she doesn't consider herself a hero for her action, "I was just in the right place at the right time, so I was glad to be able to help Mr. Crampton out."

Hendrickson adds that she hadn't had CPR training for years, but was just able to remain calm during the incident, "My actual training was decades ago, so if you retain it and can stay calm, then you can use your knowledge to assist other people.  There's lots of other people there who were trained as well, but it's your ability to stay level headed and strong during an emergency situation."

The first time Hendrickson received the award was for an incident a few years ago when a co-worker of hers at City Hall suffered a heart attack and required CPR.
