Moose Jaw's Brant Schwengler and Caronport's Ethan Douglas helped orchestrate the most lopsided win ever for Team South at the 2018 Senior Bowl on Sunday.

Team South beat up on Team North, 51-7, in Yorkton during the annual showcase of the top graduating talent in the province.

"The whole experience was awesome,” said Schwengler, a linebacker from the Central Cyclones. "I knew a few of the guys from U18s, but I met a lot of new players and played with some people that played in (the Moose Jaw High School Football League) from Swift Current and meeting with the Weyburn head coach and got to hang out with a bunch of Yorkton guys."

Schwengler was the lone player from a Moose Jaw school to crack the Team South roster for the 12-man game this season, while two players from the Swift Current Colts and three from the Yorkton Raiders made the squad.

The defence for Team South put together a great game as they held the North’s offence to just one score in the game.

"Our defence was definitely one of our stronger suits, we were pretty consistent throughout the game, there wasn't any big gains for the North," said Schwengler. "Mainly our O-line and running backs had great blocking for our quarterback to throw to our receivers, but overall, the team was just great."

Douglas was a big part of the offensive onslaught for the South with a five-yard touchdown catch in the win.

He said he really enjoyed sharing the field with so many talented players.

"I felt like everyone got around really good and just getting to know all these different guys from all these different schools and coming together, it was really nice," said Douglas.

"Everyone on the field is an all-star and I felt like I was able to do what I wanted to do."

The Senior Bowl serves as the end of the high school careers for all the players taking part.

"It was definitely nice to beat the guys from up North to finish up my high school career," said Schwengler, who's signed with the Regina Thunder junior team for next season.

Schwengler said he's looking forward to stepping it up to the next level next season, but knows that he has work to do.

"I'm a competitive guy, so I can't wait to see what its going to be like going up against a lot older football players and not being so high in the food chain any more," he said. "I definitely have to start hitting the weights a lot more and work on my speed a little bit and then I'll feel like I can somewhat go along with the big guys."

Douglas will also be suiting up with the Thunder next season and he said he's excited about the challenge in front of him.

"It's always fun being able to go out there and working your best to match up with the best," he said.

Team South is now 21-13 in the Senior Bowl with Sunday's win snapping a two-game win streak for Team North.
