Local member of parliament Tom Lukiwski said the findings of the ethics commissioner when it comes to the SNC Lavalin affair were more than just troubling.

Lukiwski, the MP for Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan, said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his officials did not provide that information to the commissioner because he didn't want them to speak fully about what they knew.

“All of these troubling allegations are no longer just allegations, they have been confirmed by the ethics commissioner,” Lukiwski said. “And it is a pattern of deceit, and it’s a pattern of one prime minister trying to hide allegations about his involvement in this entire affair. It’s more than just troubling, it’s unforgivable.”

The federal ethics commissioner concluded earlier this week that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau violated the conflict of interest act by pressuring Judy Wilson-Raybould, the attorney general at the time, to halt a criminal prosecution of Montreal's SNC-Lavalin.

Lukiwski said people in the constituency have been bringing this incident up to him.

“People are saying that they have a prime minister they can not trust, that they have a prime minister that has lied to them,” he said. “They have a prime minister that has tried to interfere with the judicial system...

“I honestly believe that if the RCMP decided to investigate this and pursue this matter, that they would come to a conclusion that there was obstruction of justice. This is serious stuff.”

Lukiwski said this wouldn’t be able to be swept under the rug. With the federal election looming in October, Lukiwski feels it's going to be one of the big issues going forward.

“I think this is something Canadians will continue to be angered about,” he said. “I think that come Oct. 21 of this year, many Canadians who have been angered... and who do not trust this prime minister anymore will be voting to get rid of him.”
