The Saskatchewan New Democrats are touring the province, looking for peoples' stories.

Ryan Meili is the Opposition NDP Leader and he was at Sidewalk Days in Moose Jaw.

He's heard from a lot of people over the summer since the legislature's spring session concluded.

“As you travel across the province, each place has their own particular concerns, but there’s a pretty constant thread of economies that have slown down,” said Meili. “We certainly don’t see the building and the boom that was saw a few years ago and that’s causing a lot of stress on families.”

He said schools are under a lot of pressure, as are hospitals.

“I know in Moose Jaw here, the emergency room here is a constant source of concern for the community,” he said. “People (are) waiting a long time to get care. These are some of the things that are causing anxiety and concern and they’re looking for some answers and some plans.”

Meili also said they've heard a lot of concerns from people about education and mental health care.

Meili was at Sidewalk Days Friday with fellow NDP MLA Carla Beck.

Beck said they recently did a survey of workers in education.

“We knew it was bad, we had been hearing that all along,” Beck said. “But I think the survey and the responses we’d been hearing is even worse than we thought. Teachers, and those that work in the classroom are feeling burnt out (and) feeling like the work that they do is not valued.”

The provincial legislature will get back in session in October.
