Moose Jaw’s Quinton Ross is receiving the opportunity to play some high-level basketball this summer.

The Central Cyclones guard cracked the Basketball Saskatchewan under-15 team in June and will be competing at the National Championships in Regina later this month.

“I was really excited,” said Ross on making the team. “I was really nervous going into the try-out, but finding out that I made it, it was awesome, it was amazing.”

Making this team is a step up for Ross, who represented Team South West at the Saskatchewan Summer Games last summer, winning a silver medal.  He said he’s looking forward to squaring off the best players in his age group from around the country.

“It’s going to be fun,” he said. “We’ve got to put in a lot of work over the next few weeks to get ready.”

Ross is naturally a point guard, but the coaches have been moving him around the court so far during their practices and exhibition games, “The coach wants me to play point guard, but he’s also put me at small forward,” he said. “We’re still working on a few things at that position.”

Team Saskatchewan was in Brandon at the start of the month for exhibition games and they’ve travelled to the Pacific Northwest this week for games in Langley, B.C. and Spokane, Wash. to help prepare for the national championship.

They will have a camp at Notre Dame in Wilcox next week before opening nationals on July 24 against Nova Scotia at the University of Regina.
