Areas of southern Saskatchewan, including the City of Moose Jaw and the surrounding area are under a severe thunderstorm watch.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and damaging hail.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in southern Saskatchewan and Montana late this afternoon/early this evening. These thunderstorms will last throughout the evening, and into the overnight hours. Golf ball size hail is expected along with strong gusty winds up to 100 km/h.

A moist, unstable air mass is in place through southern Saskatchewan this afternoon, leading to favourable conditions to the development of severe thunderstorms.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall.
