The Moose Jaw Police Service welcomed a new recruit among their ranks on Friday.

Payton Denet was officially sworn in as a police officer during a small ceremony due to COVID-19 protocols at the police station.

Most recently he worked the past four years at the Provincial Correctional Centre in Regina and with the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol.

He said the last 11 years he wanted to become a police officer.

“I've been wanting to get into policing to give back to the community, build relationships and to deal with every challenge each day and grow as an individual and help out the organization,” Denet said.

Unlike many recruits, Denet completed training at the Saskatchewan Police College in December, before he was accepted into the Moose Jaw Police Service.

“I am extremely excited to come back to Moose Jaw. Like I said, it's where I've been born and raised my whole life. All my relationships, my friendships, lifelong friends and all my family are here so it's nice to be back,” Denet said.

Denet will be joining the ranks immediately as a probationary police officer.
