The Saskatchewan Police Commission recently released its 2019-2020 annual report, outlines a number of statistics from municipal police services including Moose Jaw.

There were two instances in the past year where firearms were used by the Moose Jaw Police Service.

In the first incident, one round was shot to euthanize an injured animal. The second discharge came when a gun was accidentally shot at a training facility. No injuries from this incident were reported.

There was only one incident where a Moose Jaw police officer had to use a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), more commonly known as a taser.

The incident took place when the police received a call because a business being robbed and the suspected was wielding a hammer. The suspect fled on foot before police arrived but they were found a short distance away. The CEW was used to apprehend the suspect after they refused to drop the hammer and surrender.

The reported noted that Moose Jaw has 58 sworn officers authorized and 55 actual sworn officers. The ratio to population is one officer for every 616 people.

Nine disciplinary files were conducted from Moose Jaw with eight concluded with no offence and one required remedial action.
