On Monday, the Heritage Inn full of smiling faces and awards that we're ready to be presented. It was the Wakamow Rotary Club's annual Service Above Self Awards.

Two awards were presented in the Global Service Above Self catagory.

Tye Buettner was awarded for the multiple projects that she was apart of in Uganda. She headed the 'Afripads initiative', which provides clean reusable women's hygiene products to African teens, among many other projects.

Buettner was thankful for the support from not only her family, but the entire community of Moose Jaw.

"I would just like to thank my parents and my brother Sawyer for their continued support, and just the entire city of Moose Jaw has been so supportive its something that is very unique to Moose Jaw. I've found in being abroad and living in a different city where I have established myself, there is no community connection that compares to that of Moose Jaw and that never goes away."

Buettner was an individual award recipient, but in the group category, the Medical Mission to Guatemala was also honoured.

Jackie Wilson, a spokesperson for the group, was thankful for the community support as it has allowed them to go on the mission consecutively for the past few years.

"The continued support means everything, we are already planning for our 4th year. We just came back from our 3rd year this February and our 4th one is scheduled for February 8th next year."

Hopes are high for this upcoming trip as they are wanting to reach further than just medicine.

"Its going to allow us to do surgeries again and we are going to be able to take another medical team so that we can see hundreds of people that way. This year we are hoping to add a practical element of bringing stoves and water filtration systems to a variety of homes in the area too."

The Annual Service Above Self Awards are given out each year to those who go above and beyond when it comes to volunteering themselves and their time.
