The Riverhurst Ferry was slated to resume summer operations at the end of this month after repairs and rehabilitation work was completed on the vessel's hull. However, the Riverhurst Ferry will continue to be out of operation after recent on-water tests revealed unforeseen issues in both the primary and secondary engines.

Repairs are currently underway, with efforts being made to restore ferry service for the 2024 season, although at this time there is no set timeline for when the vessel will be up and running.

The existing engines were both manufactured in the early 1980s and are nearing the end of their service life and have become increasingly difficult to repair and maintain as industry standards have changed since the original purchase.

A tender was placed by the Ministry of Highways in February 2024 to acquire two new engines, which are expected to arrive in the fall and be installed ahead of the 2025/26 season.
