Council candidate Jeff Nelson

Saying that he wants to help keep a clean reputation for the City of Moose Jaw, 45 year old Jeff Nelson has filed his paperwork for the 2012 Civic Election.  With under a week left for nominations, Nelson has become the eleventh person to announce his intentions on running for one of six council positions.

Nelson is a chef with Supermeats Catering and wants to leave his imprint on Moose Jaw's future.  "I think, for the most part, the previous councils have done a good job.  I know one thing that is concerning to everyone is our aging infrastructure so that's something that needs to be solved."

When asked how to address that popular election issue, Nelson says it could involve some federal funding and went on to say that a plan is definitely needed.

While Nelson becomes our 11th candidate in the race for City Council, we briefly had a 12th candidate on Wednesday.  For just a few minutes, 49 year old Kelvin Meadows was an official candidate after filing his nomination papers at City Hall but, just after the lunch hour, he withdrew.

Meadows is currently chairman of the board for Avena Foods out of Regina and says a phone call changed everything.  "One of the directors of one of our companies phoned us up and came over to visit and had an opportunity that we just couldn't pass up that would help benefit our shareholders and our other companies, so we felt that we just had to move forward on that and unfortunately that meant that I had to withdraw."

Nominations for mayor, council or one of the school boards must be submitted by September 19th.
