The NHL is back.  The NHL Players Association ratified the collective bargaining agreement on Saturday and the two side signed the memorandum of understanding to officially mark the end of the lockout.

 

Training camps will open league wide starting on Sunday, including in Toronto, where Warriors defenceman Morgan Rielly will be trying to crack the Maple Leafs.

 

The 48-game schedule has also been released with the league starting play on Saturday and running until Saturday, April 27th.  Click here to see the full schedule.

The Central Cyclones got city wide bragging rights when they won their second straight Moose Jaw Senior Boys Invitational.  They knocked off the Peacock Toilers 68-58 in a hard fought final on Saturday.

 

Those two teams will square off when league play returns on Tuesday, it will be their first meeting of the regular season.

 

The tournament was hampered by the snow storm on Thursday with a couple of teams pulling out, but Vanier and Caronport filled in to make the tournament a go.

The Moose Jaw Warriors are trying to regroup following their sixth straight loss on Friday night against Brandon. The 6-2 defeat at Mosaic Place dropped them down to the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

 

The tribe won’t have long to think about it though as Swift Current comes to town on Tuesday.

 

There was four games in the East Division on Saturday night. Brandon won their second straight, beating Regina, 2-1; Prince Albert knocked off Red Deer, 4-3, in overtime; Saskatoon lost to Edmonton, 2-1; and Swift Current knocked off Calgary, 4-3.

The Assiniboia Southern Rebels picked up a big 6-3 win against the Ochapowace Thunder on Saturday night.

 

The Rebels are off until next Sunday when they’ll play home during SaskEnergy Hockey Weekend in Assiniboia.

It’s been a good weekend for Briercrest Clippers volleyball as they’ve won both their meetings against Lethbridge College in the men’s and women’s divisions.

 

The men finished off with a dominating four-set win over the Kodiaks on Saturday.  That goes with their five-set win from Friday.

 

The women needed five sets on Saturday to beat the Kodiaks, but won in three straight sets on Friday.

 

The Clippers men’s hockey team struggled again this weekend, losing both their games against NAIT, 6-0 on Friday and 8-1 on Saturday.

A shocker in the NFL playoffs on Saturday as the top seeded Denver Broncos were knocked out by the Baltimore Ravens 38-35 in double overtime.  That puts the Ravens into their second straight AFC Championship Game.

 

The NFC Divisional matchup from Saturday had the San Francisco 49ers ending the Green Bay Packers season with a 45-31 win.

 

Houston heads to New England and Atlanta hosts Seattle in Sunday’s divisional round games.
