Moose Jaw City Hall

While we've been telling you about candidates since the spring, the official race to October 24th is now underway in Moose Jaw.

City Hall is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Civic Election.  In a little under two months, we'll vote for a new mayor, six councillors and school board trustees.  Starting Monday morning, candidates can file their nomination papers and enter the race.

So far we have eight candidates for council after Ira Dales and Don Mitchell made their intentions clear on Friday. Prior to that, six people had announced they would be running a campaign this fall, Jack Smith, Candis Kirkpatrick, Heather Eby,  Larissa Shasko, Kristian Sjoberg and Fraser Tolmie.

With the opening of the nomination process, more candidates are likely to step forward and everyone is waiting to see what will happen with the position of mayor.  Glenn Hagel announced his retirement from politics earlier this summer.  Despite a lot of rumours and stories around the coffee shops, a candidate has not come forward at this time.
