The Novice Mustangs in action this season.

It wasn't the colour they had hoped for, but the Novice Mustangs ended their Queen City Box Lacrosse season on a high note on Wednesday night.  They beat the Regina Roughnecks, 4-2, in the bronze medal game at the Al Ritchie Arena.

Bryden Kerr stood on his head in goal and the Mustangs got goals from four different players for a complete team win in the third place game.

They opened the scoring in the first period when Ethan Storozuk struck with 6:30 to go in the frame.  Ethan Johnson assisted on the goal for his first of two helpers on the night.

The score stayed that way until midway through the second period when the Mustangs really took control of the game.  They got goals from Atley Calvert and Saber Labocetta just 2:10 apart to go up 3-0.  Will Blake got Regina on the board with 3:41 to go in the frame.

The Roughnecks were able to pull within one just 6:40 into the third period when Aidan Sears picked up an unassisted marker to make it 3-2.  Moose Jaw was able to answer with 6:15 left in the game as Kael Nichols score an insurance goal for the 4-2 win.

The Mustangs had a strong season, going 9-4-1 during the regular season.  They won their quarterfinal game against the Regina Rush, 5-4, last week, but fell in the semifinals to the Regina Rock, 9-3, on Sunday.

They wrap up their season on the weekend with a tournament in Saskatoon.

Black Knights To Play For Mustang Cup

The Moose Jaw Junior Field Lacrosse League is down to two teams after Wednesday's semifinal at Central Collegiate.  The Black Knights will defend their 2012 Mustang Cup title after beating out the Orangemen, 7-4, on Wednesday.

Bailey Bechtold and Aaron Forbes paced the Black Knights attack in the win, each picking up a hat trick.  Mason Viczko had the other goal Black Knights goal.

The Black Knights built up a 3-2 lead after the first quarter thanks two early goals by Bechtold and Forbes' first of the game.  Hayden McKenna and Brandon Findlay picked up the Orangemen goals in the frame.

Forbes' second added to the Black Knights lead in the second quarter as they led 4-2 going into halftime.

A three-goal third quarter was all the Black Knights needed to put the game away as Bechtold and Forbes completed their hat tricks and Viczko added one for good measure.

Those goals ended up being big as the Orangemen put up a charge in the fourth quarter with goals from Tanner Sharp and Vanesu Mafukidze, but it wasn't enough.

The Black Knights will now take on the Big Red for the second Mustang Cup on Friday at Gutheridge Field.
