The Western Canada Summer Games might still be three months away, but that didn't stop Saskatchewan from taking home a gold medal when it came to year-over-year wholesale trade increase.

Saskatchewan led Western Canada and ranked second among provinces in year-over-year wholesale trade growth, according to Stats Canada.

Wholesale trade was up 17.3 per cent (seasonally adjusted) in March 2019 when compared to last March. Total wholesale trade for March was $2.45 billion.

Major gains were reported for machinery, equipment and supplies, up 11.5 per cent and miscellaneous merchant wholesale, up 35.5 per cent.

Nationally, trade increased by 2.8 per cent.
