The Prairie South School Division has announced they are "reviewing' 7 schools in the division including the historic Ecole Ross School here in Moose Jaw.

They're careful not to use the word "closure" right now but closure is a very real possibility for several schools in the local Prairie South School Division.

Prairie South has identified 7 schools that are now under "review". They include Ross School in Moose Jaw and rural schools in Briercrest, Chaplin, Crane Valley, Eyebrow, Limerick and Willow Bunch.

Prairie South Board Chair Gord Stewart explains. "Prairie South School Division is not viable and is not sustainable right now in its present form. If you look at our last budget we had a deficient of about 5.7 million so we have to look at something to make it viable."

Prairie South is scheduling meetings in each community to discuss the review. They may release the dates and times Thursday afternoon.

Here in Moose Jaw the news of Ecole Ross School being considered as a school to shutdown will hit many residents hard. The local school has a rich history in our city as it’s linked to one of the worst air disasters in Canada back in 1954.
