After an 8-3 victory by Ontario over Wildcard in the semifinal Sunday morning, the stage is now set for the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts at Mosaic Place.

Rachel Homan curled at 93 per cent in her team’s win over Wildcard Jennifer Jones. Homan stole three in the second end and took a lead she wouldn’t relinquish.

“Definitely that was a crucial moment but we’ve seen big leads all week and teams fight back,” Homan said. “We made sure to keep the pedal down and played a really great game.”

Her third, Emma Miskew, was at 94 per cent in the game – including 98 per cent on takeouts – to give her team a great chance.

For her part, Jones said that it was difficult giving up a steal of three early against Homan.

“We really tried to put a few ends together and just couldn’t kinda get anything going,” Jones said. “Unfortunately that steal of three, we just missed too many shots that end. Even if I could have held them to one, that would have probably changed to game a little bit.”

The seventh end looked like it was going to set up well for Jones after her third, Kaitlyn Lawes, made a great double and Jones herself had a great shot with her first.

But there was Homan again with her own takeout to crush a Jones for get more than one.

“Jen was one rock away from getting three right back,” Homan said. “We had to keep making great shots and so did they.”

Homan’s made the final last year, losing to Alberta’s Chelsea Carey. Homan said they’re excited to be back there.

“We played such a great game this morning. We’re going to go recover a bit and come back out and try and give it all we have,” said Homan.

“Last year obviously stung but it happens,” Miskew said. “It’s part of sport. If everything was guaranteed, no one would enjoy watching it. We’re happy to be in this situation again. We’re playing a great team and hopefully it’s a great game.”

Manitoba won the championship round game between the two teams 9-6 Friday night.
