Faced with an increasing crunch on rental units for their students, SIAST is looking to an outside source to find housing in Saskatchewan.

Right now, there are upwards of 200 international students in the province looking for a room, the majority of them are here in Moose Jaw and that number is expected to double by 2015. So, they've turned to the Canada Homestay Network, a program that matches students with billet families.

"They contact Canada Homestay Network and Canada Homestay Network will work with them to find a suitable family where they can live for 8 weeks but it could turn into the entire two years or one year that they are studying at SIAST." explained Manager of International Education, Jason Mazzei.

Mazzei says they are looking for host families in the city who are willing to take in a student. If you're interested in hosting a student or if you're just looking for more information, you can email siast@canadahomestayinternational.com or call 1-877-441-4443 ext 2081.

Right now, the program is just for international students but it could be expanded to apprenticeship students in the future.

The local campus is exploring a student residence, but the province has been slow moving when it comes to funding. They recently went to public tender to see if any private companies are interested in building a facility for students to live in.
