Moose Jaw's Pat Simmons rolled through the competition on the weekend in the desert.

Simmons posted a 7-0 record on his way to a 9-3 win over Jim Cotter in the final at the Ed Werenich Golden Wrench Classic on the World Curling Tour.

The win is the second of the year for the Simmons rink – third John Morris, second Carter Rycroft and lead Nolan Theissen – which has appeared in the final in its last two WCT events.

Simmons opened with a 12-1 win over the Arizona-based Carroll Huntress rink and were clicking from there as they finished the round robin with wins over Pete Fenson, 8-2; Todd Birr, 5-3; Charley Thomas, 8-3.

In the quarterfinals, the defending Brier champion came away with a 5-3 win over John Shuster's rink out of Minnesota. They followed that up with an 8-3 win over Thomas in the semifinal before finishing with the triumph over Cotter in the final.

The final saw Simmons jump out to a 5-0 lead with a steal of two in the second and another steal of three in third. Cotter battled back with three in the fifth, but Simmons ended it quickly with deuces in the sixth and seventh.

The win is a nice tune-up for the Simmons rink as they prepare to represent Canada for the second straight year at the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier in Ottawa.
