Peacock takes on Prince Albert St. Mary's on Friday at Smith Field.

It was a tough first day at Soccerfest 2012 here in Moose Jaw for the three local teams as Central was the only one to pick up a win.

The Cyclones went 1-2 in their pool to finish third.  They opened the tournament with a 6-2 loss to Notre Dame, then were shut out 6-0 by Swift Current, and finished off the day on a winning note, beating Prince Albert St. Mary's, 3-1.

Peacock went 0-2-1 and also finished third in their pool.  The Tornadoes lost 2-0 to Regina Campbell in a hard fought game to open the tournament; after that they struggled to an 8-0 loss to Prince Albert St. Mary's 1; and then played to a 2-2 draw against Estevan.

Peacock and Central will square off in the "C" side semifinals on Saturday morning, 9:00am, at Sunningdale Field.

"We're doing what we expected to do," said Sandi Hutchinson, Tornadoes head coach.  "We had a fairly good game against Campbell, so it's nice to play a big school like that and play some good defence."

Hutchinson adds that they will use the tournament as a learning experience as they continue league play, "We'll go over some of the stuff at practice and this is where you get your examples because some girls were just chasing."

Vanier struggled to an 0-3 record against some stiff competition in their pool.  The Spirits lost 7-0 to Prince Albert Carlton; they were kept off the scoresheet again in a 4-0 loss to the Saskatoon Evan Hardy; and then finally found the back of the net in a 4-2 loss to Lloydminster Holy Rosary.

Vanier will take on Balgonie Greenall in the "D" side semifinal, which also goes on Saturday morning at 9:00am, but they will be playing on South Hill at Smith Field.

The "A" side semifinals get underway at 11:00am.  Regina LeBoldus squares off with Prince Albert Carlton at Sunningdale East, while Swift Current takes on Regina Campbell on Sunningdale West.
