It should come as no surprise that farmers in the area and the rest of southern Saskatchewan are in need of moisture. And lots of it.

Since the beginning of March, Moose Jaw has reportedly only received 11 millimetres, or just under half an inch of precipitation, which is making it tough for farmers who want to get seeding underway soon.

Jodi Vibert farms near Craik and says they plant canola, barley, and wheat. She says things aren't looking great right now.

"It is very dry. There are guys around us and ourselves, we're pumping dugouts for water. We're in dire need of moisture, that's for sure."

She says despite the desperate need for moisture, they still have to get the operation underway and do the best that they can.

"We're just working in the shop getting equipment ready, changing the oil in some tractors, and just other prep work like that. I would think that some guys are going to want to start seeding a little bit earlier than usual, just to try and get some of the moisture that is there."

Good news though for farmers is that we could see some precipitation over the weekend, with Saturday night, Sunday, and Monday morning all forecasting the chance of rain and/or snow.
