People in Regina and Saskatoon got a chance to see how STARS air bases are opperated on Friday.

People got the chance to tour the facility as well as the helicopter used on the missions.

STARS flight paramedic Jason Prokopetz says that these events are very informative for the public who are interested in their work.

"It's good for the public to come out and see where we work, and it's an opportunity to see the helicopter out in the hanger too."

Dale Tuplin, from Moose Jaw made the trip to into Regina with his two grandsons, and says the event was enjoyable.

"Very worth while, it was great. I've never seen a helicopter up close in my life so it was well worth it."

There are three STARS helicopters in Saskatchewan, with one in Regina and two in Saskatoon.

Prokopetz explained that it's hard work when they need to be out on missions.

"We all wear vests and learn how to pack them well. Some of us wear fanny packs to make sure we have everything. The big thing about being in the helicopter is that if something rolls away, we can't just get up and grab it, so we get good at packing."

STARS flies around 1000 missions each year within the province.
