Summer in Moose Jaw kicked off with the fair this weekend

Summer finally made its appearance this weekend, although it was a bit muted. The Hometown Fair helped to kick off the new season but scattered showers did make an appearance.

David Phillips, Senior Climatologist for Environment Canada says that the prairies can sometimes lead the way in terms of tornados, plow winds, and lightening during the summer time and it's something we need to be aware of when planning activities.

"Not to scare you and no forecasts are showing that, but when it is a little warmer than normal, then sometimes nature gets a little active and we see these storms develop. They tend to be short lived and they're just part of the normal weather pattern."

Phillips says the models are calling for a just slightly warmer than normal summer with lots of sunshine for June and near normal temperatures for July. Although their models for June have been slightly off so far with more clouds and rain than sunshine.
