They didn't get the results that they were hoping for, but Moose Jaw's Team Ackerman is taking away a lot from their first trip to the Canadian Junior Women's Curling Championship.

"It was definitely really great getting experience here and getting to compete against some of the best teams in the country, especially as one of the younger teams here," said Skip Skylar Ackerman. "We're still quite a bit disappointed with how the results turned out, but we've got a few more years left to come."

The local rink -- which also features Madison Johnson at third, Chantel Hoag at second, and Samantha McLaren at lead -- finished 2-7 at the junior nationals over the past week in Prince Albert. They closed out the event with a split of their two games on Thursday, beating Prince Edward Island, 8-4, and losing 5-4 to the Northwest Territories.

In the afternoon match-up with P.E.I., the Host Team trailed 4-3 heading into the eighth end, but they blew the game open by scoring three points and then they stole two in the ninth to finish off the win.

Ackerman and company played another close game in the night game with the Northwest Territories coming back late for the win.

Ackerman stole two in the eighth to take a 4-2 lead, but the N.W.T. responded with two in the ninth and then they stole on in the tenth for the win.

This won't be the last national championship this year for the Ackerman rink as they will head to Red Deer for the 2019 Canada Winter Games next month and also have their sights set on a return trip to the Under-18 Nationals.

"This has definitely given us something to work towards, we know what we need to improve on for sure and there are teams here that if you make a mistake, they're going to make you pay for it," said Ackerman.

Saskatchewan, which is being skipped by Regina’s Sara England, has fallen out of the running for a playoff spot in the Championship Pool after a pair of losses on Thursday. Team Sask lost 8-5 to Northern Ontario and 9-7 to British Columbia to fall to 5-4 at the national championship.

On the men’s side, Saskatchewan’s Rylan Kleiter continues to roll, picking up a pair of wins to improve to 8-1. Saskatchewan topped Northern Ontario, 7-6, and rolled past Nova Scotia, 12-2, on Thursday.

The final draw goes at 9 a.m. on Friday followed by the possibility of a tiebreaker draw and then the semi-final and final this weekend.
