The Moose Jaw Kinsmen Aqua Otters are opening their 2018 season and hoping to add some new members to the local synchronized swimming club.

The Aqua Otters will be hosting "Try Synchro for Free" nights monthly starting this Friday.

"We're down to 15 swimmers, we'd like to see that little higher at 20-25," said Club President Sophie Rosso.

"I didn't know much about synchronized swimming before my daughter started, it’s a fun sport that combines swimming, dancing and gymnastics, and the kids perform routines either solos, duets, duos or teams."

Anyone over the age of six is welcome to come out and give the sport a try. No swimming experience is necessary either.

"We've had some of our swimmers come out and they were non-swimmers, so one of the things I really love about my daughter being in synchronized swimming is she's become an excellent swimmer," said Rosso. "We're more than happy to teach kids how to be stronger swimmers and then once they get more confident in the shallow end than they really start to focus on the synchronized side of things."

The "Try Synchro Nights" will feature the older swimmers in the club demonstrating what the sport is all about.

"We'll also invite the kids to meet our coaches and come into the pool and swim with kids their own age," said Rosso.

The first of the monthly events will be held at the 15 Wing pool from 5:45-6:45 p.m. this Friday. For more information about the club and upcoming events, visit their Facebook page or email mjaquaotters@gmail.com.
