The Moose Jaw U18 AA Warriors lost a pair of close games over the weekend in exhibition action.

The Warriors lost 6-5 on Saturday and 3-1 on Sunday to the Notre Dame Hounds.

Warriors head coach Mike Russell enjoyed what his team was able to bring to the table.

“We saw a lot of positives moving forward going into league play,” Russell said. “We did have a few mental errors that the boys are well aware of, and we’ll continue to work on. But overall we saw quite a few positives that we’re excited about.”

Friday, Macallum Simpson scored a goal and two assists, while Lyndon Fell scored a goal and an assist. Jared Moran, Erik Tittemore and Jacob King scored for the Warriors. Jayden Watterson took the loss in net and shots were not available.

Sunday, the Warriors’ Evan Fisher scored the team’s only goal while Landyn MacLachlan saved 44 shots in net in the loss.

Russell said his team comes to the rink every practice wanting to learn.

“We’re very pleased with what we saw,” he said. “There’s a few mental errors and little breakdowns, and as we move forward we’ll continue to work on those.”

One of those positives he saw was being able to stay with the Hounds on the bigger ice surface at Wilcox’s Duncan MacNeill Arena.

“When you can play on a big ice like that keep a game close like that, in a fast-moving game, you’ve got to be happy,” Russell said.

The Warriors will open their regular season on November 6th at the Red Knight Arena against the Estevan Bruins.
