Two more Moose Jaw high school curling teams will be heading to the regional championships in two weeks.

The Vanier boys and Riverview mixed teams advanced with wins on Wednesday at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre as the South Central District Championships wrapped up.

Vanier needed two wins on Wednesday to advance and scored a 6-3 win over Central in the B Event final in the afternoon.

“Felt really good to get the win, this is our first time going to regionals, so it feels really good,” said Brett Behm, who skips the rink which also includes: third Ben Esson, second Marcus McLeod and lead Thayne Winder.

The B final was a back-and-forth game throughout with Vanier swinging momentum in their favour with a steal of two in the fourth end.

“It was a really close game, we were neck-and-neck until we got that steal in four,” said Behm. “The sixth was a big end too, (Central skip David Gray) came up a little short and that gave up a big boost towards the win.”

The Vikings will now get ready for regionals, which will be happening on Mar. 10-11 in Swift Current.

The Riverview mixed team – skip Terence Stark, third Jessica Kreutzer, second Austin Murray and lead Victoria Pinfold – advanced to regionals with an 8-7 win over Central Butte in the B final on Wednesday.

Their win gives Moose Jaw two teams in the mixed division at regionals after Peacock won the A final over Riverview on Tuesday.
