Vanier and Central both hit the road on Tuesday night in the Moose Jaw High School Senior Basketball League and both schools came away with a pair of victories.

Coming off a tournament win in Melfort on the weekend, the Central Cyclones were able to improve to 5-0 in the boys league with a 101-63 win over the Cougars in Caronport.

Every Cyclone player hit the scoresheet in the game, led by Kyle Boughen, who poured in 16 points in the win, while Jaxson Brownell and Hardil Khubber added 13 each.

Caronport’s top scorer was Matt Adkins, who finished with 19 in the loss.

The Cougars drop to 0-4 on the year with the loss. Central stays in top spot with their undefeated record.

In the girls game out in Caronport, the Cyclones ran to a 90-22 win over the Cougars. The win puts the Cyclones into a tie with Peacock for top spot in the league with a 4-1 record, while Caronport drops to 1-3.

Alexa Watterson led the way for Central in the win with a game-high 13 points, while Katie Coulson had 12. Ashlyn Jesse and Emily Blackmore also hit double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Just like in the boys game, all Central players hit the scoresheet in the win.

Caronport was led by Amaris Burghardt with eight points in the loss.

Down in Assiniboia, the Vanier Spirits secured a 69-59 win over the host Rockets. The win was the first of the season for the Spirits, who improve to 1-4, while the Rockets drop to 1-3 on the year.

Annah McDonald was the game’s top scorer with 17 points in the win for Vanier, while Stacia Robinson chipped in with 14. Assiniboia’s top scorer was Alyssa Anderson with 13 in the loss.

The boys game between Vanier and Assiniboia was highlighted by two massive performances for each side. Vanier’s Ronald Nyekowat and Assiniboia’s Logan Fettes went off, scoring 42 points each, as the Vikings picked up 93-76 win over the Rockets.

Nyekowat was helped out by Javan Panko with 14 points, while Ryan Stefanovic posted 12 points. Marcus Navato and Kale Froshaug added to the Rockets’ attack with 10 and eight points each.

The win improves Vanier’s record to 3-2 on the year, while Assiniboia falls to 0-4.

The next senior league action isn’t until Feb. 6. That night will see Central and Vanier square off, while Peacock hosts Assiniboia.
