The 15th annual Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation will be holding a virtual concert on Thursday.

The campaign is being put on by 160 grandmother groups from across Canada, including Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers here in Saskatchewan.

The concert will include a wide variety of entertainment from across the country, including Steven Page, formerly of the Barenaked Ladies.

“We wanted to have people from Atlantic Canada all the way to the West Coast in B.C. and we also wanted to have people representing various groups, backgrounds, ethnicities, and abilities,” said Mary McFarlane-Sefton, chair of Saskatoon Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers and member of the concert committee.

Other performers include the National Ballet School, Bridge Brass Quintet, David Myles, Feels Like Home and Saskatoon's Kids of Note and The Notations. The event will be hosted by award-winning theatre and musical performer Jackie Richardson.

McFarlane-Sefton said organizations across the province are getting behind the event.

“I know the Moose Jaw group is excited about the concert. Regina group is having a dinner to the door option and so people are very, very supportive and we're looking forward to a great concert in on Thursday,” she said.

The goal of the concert is to raise $500,000 for grandmothers in Africa dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic as well as HIV/AIDS.

If you would like to attend the virtual concert, you can register here. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted.

If you are unable to watch the concert on Thursday, there will be more opportunities.

“It will be available to viewers until April 18 at 7:30 p.m., so people have 72 hours,” McFarlane-Sefton said.
